GRC is the Abbreviation of the Gender Resource Centers. It is recognized that women’s inequality manifests itself in many forms such as gender discrimination in terms of declining male-female sex ratio, Social stereotyping, Gender-based violence at home and at work, Low level of education, health and nutritional status, limited access to resources, etc.

The Aim of GRC: 

To sensitize and facilitate Government Departments, NGOs, Academic Institutions, International agencies and Independent experts in planning, implementing and evaluating gender-sensitive programs, policies, laws, and schemes.

To ensure that the relevance and significance of Gender Equity and Equality are accepted and incorporated into the overall development process and plans.

Structure of RBI

The RBI is governed by a central board of directors. Directors of the board are appointed by the Government according to the act. The board includes ten non-official nominated directors from various fields and four directors from local boards, one each for the four zonal regions.

The RBI is headed by a Governor. There are up to four Deputy Governors.

The RBI has four zonal offices: for North zone in Delhi, South zone in Chennai, East in Kolkata and West in Mumbai.

It has 19 regional offices and 10 sub-offices.There is four zonal training center at Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi.

College of Agricultural Banking and Reserve Bank of India Staff College are part of the Reserve Bank. The other three autonomous establishments are National Institute for Bank Management, Indira Gandhi Institute for Development Research (IGIDR) and Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT).

Main Functions of RBI

  • The monetary policy of India is formulated, implemented and monitored by the RBI.
  • It ensures that price remains stable and adequate flow of credit to productive sectors is maintained.
  • As a regulator and supervisor of the financial system, RBI sets parameters of banking and financial operations.
  • In order to manage foreign exchange, it facilitates external trade and payment.
  • It issues currency for the country in order to provide the public adequate quantity of supplies of currency notes and coins.
  • It performs many promotional functions that support national objectives.
  • It acts as a banker to the government and banker to the banks. It lends to the commercial banks to help them meet depositors’ demands and reserve requirements for the long term. RBI charges the banks interest for this and it is called bank rate or repo rate. If the RBI wants to increase the liquidity and money supply in the market, it reduces the bank rate and in order to reduce the liquidity and money supply, it increases the bank rate.

The RBI is active in promoting financial inclusion policy and its decisions are one of the key factors in determining economy of India.
