The Reserve Bank of India Job Vacancies: RBI is a central banking institution of India which controls monetary policy for the nation. It was established on 1st April 1935 under the Government of India act. Initially, it was a private bank. Since 1949, it is fully owned by the Government of India.

Main Functions of RBI

  • The monetary policy of India is formulated, implemented and monitored by the RBI.
  • It ensures that price remains stable and adequate flow of credit to productive sectors is maintained.
  • As a regulator and supervisor of the financial system, RBI sets parameters of banking and financial operations.
  • In order to manage foreign exchange, it facilitates external trade and payment.
  • It issues currency for the country in order to provide the public adequate quantity of supplies of currency notes and coins.
  • It performs many promotional functions that support national objectives.
  • It acts as a banker to the government and banker to the banks. It lends to the commercial banks to help them meet depositors’ demands and reserve requirements for the long term. RBI charges the banks interest for this and it is called bank rate or repo rate. If the RBI wants to increase the liquidity and money supply in the market, it reduces the bank rate and in order to reduce the liquidity and money supply, it increases the bank rate.

The RBI is active in promoting financial inclusion policy and its decisions are one of the key factors in determining the economy of India.
