About Physical Research Laboratory:

Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) is a self-governing institution. It was founded by Dr. Vikram A. Sarabhai in the year 1947. PRL located in the western part of the Ahmedabad city. The founder of this institute is regarded as the Father of Space program in India. The main campus of the institute was inaugurated by the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. PRL is a unit of the department of space, the government of India. It carries out basic research in various fields of physics, space and distinctive sciences, astronomy, astrophysics, and solar physics as well as planetary and geosciences. PRL conducts a range of seminars based on various topics.

PRL is a premier institute engaged in basic research in experimental and theoretical physics, astronomy and astrophysics, earth, planetary and atmospheric sciences. It is also involved in conducting extensive academic programs for Doctoral and Post Doctoral research. It has an Associateship program for university teachers too. It is also entrusted with the management of the Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO).

The primary focus of PRL was research on space rays and the properties of the upper atmosphere. With time research areas were expanded. Currently, PRL is energetically involved in research, related to five major fields of science.

PRL offers a range of courses based on various topics. They are such as astronomy and astrophysics, geosciences, space and atmospheric sciences, planetary sciences and many more. PRL also provides Ph. D. courses for radio astronomy, solar physics and space weather, marine geochemistry, subduction zone volcanism, an evolution of Proterozoic sedimentary basins of India. It also provides astronomical instrumentation and data processing techniques. The geosciences division of the institute focuses on understanding the beginning and development of the planet earth and its various components. The major areas of research conducted at geosciences division are solid earth geochemistry, hydrology, aqueous geochemistry, aerosol chemistry, oceanography, and paleoceanography. Planetary Sciences Division of the institute conducts research programs.

Facilities offered by PRL:

PRL provides facilities at planetary sciences division include noble gas mass spectrometer, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS), electron microprobe (EPMA), x-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS), nano secondary ion mass spectrometer (NanoSIMS) and multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (MC-ICPMS). PRL also offers facilities like a computer center, library, workshop, and laboratories.

State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) Recruitment 2018

Above subject line describes itself on what we are going to discuss here. On hearing word rural we start thinking of small villages, poorness, illiteracy etc. well it is very unfortunate that still there are many rural areas in India. However, this topic is on the priority of the government of India. And that is why for faster execution central government asks every state government to be a part of this mission of rural development. However it requires proper knowledge of rural development and that is why to provide such training and education for rural development, there is institute available in states. This institute is known as State Institute of Rural Development. SIRD is the abbreviated name of the same. We will discuss here in detail about SIRD, its objectives, organizational structure, training etc. before we move further let’s start with a short description about SIRD first here below.

About State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD):

The State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) is the state top organization for informing training for the Rural Development Programs and Panchayati Raj. The Central Ministry supports the training activities of States for successful execution of rural development programs. The ministry provides financial support to State Institutes of Rural Development (SIRDs) as well as Extension Training Centers (ETCs). These SIRDs and ETCs are State Government institutes for imparting training in the field of rural development. It also provides training to rural development functionaries the elected representatives of Panchayati Raj.

The only mission of SIRD is to focus on the best development in the ongoing rural development schemes as well as sensitize the elected representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) to be practical through capacity building activities. Here capacity building is considered to be a basic part in the development efforts through which the delivery system can be made effective. We can say that at the state level this attempt is well taken by SIRD. SIRDs aim at improving the knowledge, skill, and attitude of rural development functionaries and elected representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions at State and District level. Currently, there are 28 SIRDs, one in each State in India. All 28 SIRDs are established with important objectives. Take a look below for the same.

Objectives of SIRD:

  • To prepare text for a variety of training programs and distribute information about various activities of rural development and Panchayati Raj.
  • To assess and take out research of selected activities of rural development and Panchayati Raj.
  • To arrange the training programs, workshops, seminars and orientation programs for the people of rural development and Panchayati departments.
  • To expand the need-based training units for different target groups.
  • To start and support in the organization of training and study courses, conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  • To start to assist, endorse and manage research through its own or other agencies including universities and training centers established by the Government of India or the State Government.
  • To start schools for study and compass reading, training and instructions, research and assessment.
  • To examine and suggest solutions to specific problems encountered in the planning and implementation of various programs of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.
  • To get ready, print and publish papers, periodicals, and books in furtherance of the purpose of the society.
  • To set up and maintain the library and information services.
  • To offer companionships, scholarship, and prizes in favor of the objects of the society.

For further information about SIRD, training, courses and more, one can contact a regional state institute of rural development. As mentioned above there are 28 SIRDs in all 28 states of India.
