About Physical Research Laboratory:

Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) is a self-governing institution. It was founded by Dr. Vikram A. Sarabhai in the year 1947. PRL located in the western part of the Ahmedabad city. The founder of this institute is regarded as the Father of Space program in India. The main campus of the institute was inaugurated by the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. mission Aryabhata In 1975, ISRO built India’s first satellite Aryabhata which was launched by the Soviet Union on 19 April in 1975.

mission rohiniIn 1980, India launched a satellite named Rohini which was the first satellite to be placed in orbit by an Indian-made launch vehicle.

mission PSLV and GSLVISRO developed PSLV and GSLV, the two satellite launching vehicles for placing satellites into geostationary orbits which have launched a large number of satellites for India as well some other countries.The first launch vehicle SLV-3 its first successful flight in 1980.

The Mars Orbiter MissionThe Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) was launched into the Earth orbit on 5 November 2013. The mission was achieved at a record cost of $74 million.

Future Projects of ISRO

  • Astronaut training and other facilities: It will set up an astronaut training center in Bangalore to prepare personnel for flights board the crewed vehicle. It will train selected astronaut using simulation facilities and will also undertake studies of the radiation environment of space.
  • Development of crew vehicle: It is working on an indigenous vehicle named as Orbital Vehicle. It will be a maiden manned Indian space mission vehicle that can carry three astronauts for seven days in a near earth orbit at 400 km in altitude. The Indian manned spacecraft temporarily intends to be the basis of Indian human spaceflight programme.

It is to undertake the development of new launch vehicles and spacecraft and has plans to send unmanned missions to Mars and Near-Earth Objects. There are about 58 missions during 2012–17 that includes 33 satellites missions and 25 launch vehicles missions.

satellites ISROToday ISRO has created a new record of launching 20 satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Andhra’s Sriharikota that includes earth observation satellite Cartosat-2 series. This has been made possible due to devising novel engineering technology by ISRO team.
